Mechwarrior Online offers special mech for cancer charity

Mechwarrior Online has accumulated quite a following during its beta period, and the game and developers are honouring a five-year old player who passed away from cancer.

Five-year-old Sarah Marie Alida Parries of Vancouver was a big fan of MechWarrior and played the game with her dad Jon. Sarah sadly died from complications with inoperable brain cancer.

“Sarah’s favourite Mech chassis was the Jenner with streak SRMs, because she liked to lock on,” said Niko Snow, the Mechwarrior Online community manager. “She loved speeding around with nightvision and lots of medium lasers so she could, “get ’em good!” blazing through the Inner Sphere with her father Jon. Sarah was an excellent sport and shared her dad’s passion for BattleTech.”

The Mechwarrior community wanted to honour Sarah, and Piranha Games commendably introduced the “Sarah’s Jenner” mech, which is available for $10. Proceeds from sales go to the Canadian Cancer Society.

The Sarah’s Jenner mech is available until 10 August 2013, and the proceeds have already exceeded $30,000.

In previous news, Piranha Games also announced that the robo-smash-a-thon that is MechWarrior Online will release on 17 September 2013.

MechWarrior Online is also free-to-play. The MyGaming lance has already formed and you can join the mechanised mayhem crew over on the forum: Official MechWarrior Online Thread
