SA Xbox One price unconfirmed, pre-orders tentative

Xbox One Sa news

While pre-order prices for the Xbox One have been going live with South African retailers, Microsoft SA has assured gamers that these are placeholder prices and a final price-point is still to be announced.

“The South African price point and release date for the Xbox One has not been confirmed as of yet,” said Xbox South Africa’s PR manager Graeme Selvan. “Furthermore, the price point featured on AWX was a placeholder for the product, it has not come down from Xbox South Africa. We will release relevant pricing and release dates when we have them” .

The comment was in response to reporting on local retailer Animeworx, who had set the pre-order price for the PlayStation 4 console at a tentative R5,899, while the Xbox One is sitting at a staggering R7,299.

A representative of AWX previously told MyGaming that the listed price is an estimation based on UK pound / Rand exchange rates. The final price for South Africa is yet to be confirmed. This is indicated on their product pages.

AWX said that those who pre-order won’t be charged, and this is to register their interest in the products as there will be limited stock at launch. Should prices change upwards or downwards, pre-orders customers will be notified accordingly.

AWX said that some customers have already paid to secure their console. Should prices drop, customers will receive a refund or credit. Should prices increase, customers will be notified with the option to pay in the difference or cancel their order.
