Speaking to Xbox World 360 magazine (via CVG), DICE’s senior producer Patrick Bach says that the company doesn’t “ever want to charge for our maps and insisted to EA that this attitude was crucial when it came to keeping our community happy and playing together”, adding that “generous” amounts of DLC were scheduled for Bad Company 2.
Of course, Bach slyly avoids mentioning that this really only applies to gamers who’ve bought the game brand new and redeemed a single-use VIP code (and PC gamers, of course). Anyone who decides to pick up Bad Company 2 for Xbox 360 or PS3 secondhand will have to hand over $15 to get the same VIP status. That’s the price of freedom, boys and girls.
“We’re owned by EA,” says Bach, “but we’re still very much DICE.” It’s just that DICE’s DLC model also looks exactly like EA’s, obviously.
