Industry legend John Carmack, co-founder of id Software and programming mastermind behind the company’s various id Tech 3D engines, has joined the development team at Oculus VR. This is according to a report on Eurogamer.
He will be joining with Oculus VR as its new CTO (Chief Technology Officer). The company is developing the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset.
Carmack has previously spoken very highly of the Oculus Rift project: “What I’ve got now, is, I honestly think the best VR demo probably the world has ever seen.”
Speaking to this huge move, Carmack said: “The dream of VR has been simmering in the background for decades, but now, the people and technologies are finally aligning to allow it to reach the potential we imagined.”
“I’m extremely excited to make a mark in what I truly believe will be a transformative technology,” said Carmack.
