Bank heists and pantless ducks return

Games you can play this week August 12

This week, Overkill Software and 505 Games bring the bank-bursting Payday 2 to the scene, while Capcom revive an old duck for another adventure in Ducktales Remastered.

Payday 2 (13 August 2013)

The sequel to the hit bank-robbery-sim is releasing this week, and Payday 2 is sure to raise the stakes and risks when it drops.

Payday 2 teams players with three friends to perform bank heists and other robberies. Careful planning and strategy could result in an easy job, but there’s always the guns-blazing approach that can also get the job done.

Overkill Software has also made some improvements to the gameplay over the original, such as tighter gun combat, an improved stealth mechanic, as well as a physical loot system, which adds weight to the player with the more loot picked up – making it a risk-reward scenario to take more on your way out.

Ducktales Remastered (13 August 2013)

Ducktales Remastered will bring some nostalgic duck-based action to PC gamers on 13 August (with console version set for release at a later stage).

Many of the original game’s levels are featured, along with new areas added for the remake and new boss patterns. The game features new story elements which explain some of the motives and reasoning behind each level, for example, how that crazy duck is able to breathe on the moon.

The game also features almost identical gameplay to the original, with a few gameplay tweaks, such as a map screen and an easier pogo jump, which can be toggled on and off. DuckTales: Remastered will also feature a new tutorial level set in Scrooge’s money vault, galleries, the ability to unlock a rare full-length version of the TV show’s theme song, and a new level leading up to the final boss.

I’m actually really looking forward to the new Payday. I quite enjoyed number one but a few aspects, such as the gunplay in particular, really irritated me particularly in comparison to more established shooters. With the changes they’ve made for the sequel, it should be pretty good.
