Rockstar has finally pulled the curtains back, revealing the first details and online gameplay of the multiplayer portion of GTA V, called GTA Online.

Grand Theft Auto Online features a dynamic and persistent world for up to 16 players to cause absolute havoc in.

The online portion shares the geography and features from GTA 5, but Rockstar explained that its life will extend beyond GTA 5, getting its own content into the future.

Players can participate in co-op events and missions, as well as take part in traditional multiplayer game modes.

“In Grand Theft Auto Online, you’ll have the freedom to explore alone or with friends, work cooperatively to complete missions, band together to participate in activities and ambient events, or compete in traditional game modes with the entire community, all with the personality and refined mechanics of Grand Theft Auto V.”

Players can earn money, customise their characters, buy a home, and collect cars to create their own life in the GTA Online world.

Players will even be able to design their own races and deathmatches using the content creator, which can then be shared with the GTA Online community.

Grand Theft Auto Online and will be included on the Xbox 360 version’s second disc, and on the single Blu-ray disc for PS3.

Rockstar previously released the much-anticipated GTA 5 single-player trailer, which blew our minds and gave us a glimpse at just some of the action that awaits us in Los Santos.

Grand Theft Auto V will arrive in stores on 17 September 2013 for PS3 and Xbox 360.

There were some question about a PC version of GTA V after Rockstar still hadn’t announced anything, but a mention of a mouse and keyboard version of the game from Nvidia’s Senior IR Director of Nvidia, Chris Evenden, suggested that a PC version is in development. However, Nvidia has clarified their comment, saying they weren’t alluding to an in-development PC version of the game, and mentioning the game as an example of an upcoming PC title was an error.
