Sony’s Gamescom press briefing was undoutebly headlined by the news of the PS4’s release date and new game announcements, but Sony made it clear that indie titles are going to play a big role in Playstation’s future.
Gamescom videos have yet to make their way to the net for all of the indies mentioned below, but you can catch a glimpse of them in Sony’s full Gamescom 2013 presentation (below).
Volume (Mike Bithell)
Following from Thomas Was Alone, Mike Bithell is introducing Volume, a stealth game which uses a unique geometric visual style, where players have to think carefully of how they’re going to overcome obstacles and remain undetected.
Volume is coming to PS4 and PS Vita first.
Wasteland Kings (Vlambeer)
Wasteland Kings is a retro-inspired action game, where you take control of a rogue-like hero who has to fight mutants and creatures created from radioactive waste.
Wasteland Kings is making its console exclusive debut on PS4 and PS Vita next year.
Rogue Legacy (Cellar Door Games)
Rogue Legacy is an indie platformer with roguelike elements by Cellar Door Games that was released on June, and now the game is headed for PS4, PS3 and PS Vita.
The goal of Rogue Legacy is to explore a randomly generated dungeon, defeat four bosses in each of the four unique environments of the dungeon, and defeat the final boss.
The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth (Nicalis)
The Binding of Isaac is getting a remake with Rebirth, and features local co-op, competitive loadouts, more than two playable characters, 110 new items, extra gameplay, enemies and bosses, plus an expanded storyline.
Binding of Isaac: Rebirth will make its console exclusive debut on PS4 and PS Vita next Spring; and for PlayStation Plus customers, it’ll be available at no additional cost.
N++ (Metanet)
The ninja-starring platformer is getting a sequel on the PS4.
N++ is going to have new multiplayer modes, thousands of hand-crafted levels, and the tools to create, share, and compete worldwide
N++ will debut exclusively on PS4 this year.
Guns of Icarus Online (Muse Games)
Guns of Icarus Online will bring steampunk airship battles to the Sony’s next-gen consoles, so prepare to fly some crazy contraptions over and engage in some cloud-high destruction.
Guns of Icarus Online will make its console exclusive debut on PS4.
Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number (Dennaton Games/Devolver Digital/Abstraction Games)
Hotline Miami took the gaming scene by storm with its surprisingly interesting story and ear-blowing soundtrack, and Sony has announced that Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number will be making its way to PS3, PS4 and PS Vita.
The top-down shooter is sure to bring some more chaos, weirdness and tracks to keep you head bobbing.
