GTA 4 blamed for 8-year old killing caregiver: report

In a bizarre turn of events, an 8-year old intentionally killed an elderly woman, and of course, video games have been blamed.

Grand Theft Auto 4 to be exact, as Rockstar’s open-world game was referred to as “a realistic game that has been associated with encouraging violence and awards points to players for killing people” in the report.

The story explains that the young boy took a gun and shot the 90-year old woman in her home. The woman was the boy’s caregiver, and was shot in the head “right after playing Grand Theft Auto IV”.

Authorities say that Louisiana law prohibits them from charging the child with a crime because of his age.

The link between the killing and GTA is a stretch at best, and Rockstar even chimed in on the event.

The studio was shocked by the shooting saying the event “further emphasizes the urgent need for America to address the availability of dangerous weapons to people who obviously shouldn’t have access to them.”

“Ascribing a connection to entertainment – a theory that has been disproven repeatedly by multiple independent studies – both minimizes this moment and sidesteps the real issues at hand,” added Rockstar.
