From Software’s Demon’s Souls was easily one of 2009’s biggest surprise hits. Although it received a pretty lukewarm reception in its native Japan, it went on to earn a strong following in the US. Europeans and indeed South African’s imported the game from the USA, and it become an underground smash hit. When we published our review back in October last year, we became inundated with local gamers wanting to know how they could get their hands on the game.
The dark fantasy RPG became well known for its ridiculously difficult, yet rewarding gameplay. It also packs some pretty innovative gameplay ideas, which you can read more about in our review. One of the stand-out features was the ability to see read messages and warnings left by other gamers in their own “gameworlds” via PSN.
According to the Unterhaltungssoftware Selbstkontrolle (USK), Germany’s software rating board, a PAL version will be released in Europe this year, over a year after its original release in Japan. With Namco Bandai publishing the PAL version, we are likely to see a local release around the same time as the EU release.
There has been no official comfirmation of the PAL release, but the USK is a farily reliable source, and if it is coming to Germany, then it will be coming to the rest of Europe, and therefore SA.
The USK tested the game on April 14 – yesterday. This means that the release code will be basically ready to go, so it should not be too long before we see it on shelves.
