The 2013 rAge gaming expo is coming our way this October, and in anticipation for the big event, MyGaming wanted to know a bit more about what SA gamers can expect at the NAG LAN.

With regards to the Internet that will be at the NAG LAN, Internet Solutions will be providing broadband internet access over fibre.

“IS will have the capability to offer between 0.5Gbps and 1.0Gbps, depending on demand and usage during the event,” said Mohammed Mulla, Access Product Manager at Internet Solutions.

In terms of its management, the internet connection will be controlled as a broadband network with certain conditions.

“Each users will be provided a minimum of 50kbps up and down to allow what is required for gaming. Users need to manage their own usage to ensure they have a successful gaming experience. Any extra capacity will be shared amongst users and burst,” added Mulla.

NAG lanners – it’s a tough job

The expo will also see the Do Gaming League taking place alongside the NAG LAN, however, the NAG LAN manager Erich Blaschczok explained that the two would run separate from one another.

“Due to the competitive nature of the event it was agreed that the design of the network would be such that the Open LAN is not connected to the DGL network,” said Blaschczok.

“This was done to minimize any possible interference from the Open LAN that might impact the competition. People inadvertently leave shares open and their media players try to share information as a default. Having more than 2,000 PCs on the network it would be inevitable that somebody would try and connect to a PC that was busy with an official match. Because of the timeline of the event (matches ending late at night) it was decided not to connect the two networks during any stage of the event.”

Microsoft SA also confirmed that the Xbox One will be playable at rAge 2013. “The consoles will be on display at our stand where gamers can get hands-on with the new controller and key first party titles before the official release in 2014,” said Xbox SA’s Graeme Selvan.
