With GTA 5 dropping jaws on the PS3 and Xbox 360, gamers are wondering if the massive crime game will make its way to next-gen too, but Rockstar’s Dan Houser has squashed that hope.
Houser explained that the team at Rockstar is very excited about the prospects that the PS4 hardware brings, but said that the GTA series won’t be coming to PS4 just yet.
“Of course we’re interested. But no, not in terms of GTA, because we’re always working on the current game. We look at the tech at a more practical level: what will be ready for which game that we’re working on further down the line. We don’t have another GTA in development, we don’t work on three of these games at a time. That would be phenomenally depressing,” said Houser.
“So, in terms of GTA, no. We get pitched by the hardware manufacturers on what they’re planning to do and our tech guys come up with ideas on how that could be used. Does this influence design decisions. Of course. But we’re not sat there fantasising about 10 years down the line. We’re so busy with what we’re doing right now.”
Take-Two Interactive revealed that GTA 5 has made over $800 million in one day.
GTA 5 released on Monday (17 September 2013) to some stellar reviews, as expected.
The multiplayer component of the game, GTA Online, hasn’t even launched yet, which will undoubtedly please fans even further. It launches on 1 October 2013.
