Nintendo SA has announced that the Nintendo 2DS will be available in South Africa from 14 October 2013 at an RRP of R1,499 from selected retailers.
There will be two different colour schemes on offer: Black and Blue, and White and Red.
At the core, the Nintendo 2DS has the same hardware features as the 3DS: dual screens with the lower a touch-screen operated by accompanying stylus; the same control layout; and wireless connectivity for multiplayer features and eShop access.
The system features a fixed form factor, hence no hinged screen as on other DS models.
Nintendo says that the 2DS is actually part of the 3DS family; it plays the entire library of packaged and downloadable games for Nintendo 3DS, only in 2D.
Nintendo said it is designed for those looking for a more affordable entry point into the world of Nintendo hand-held video games.
MyGaming also recently looked at the upcoming games lineup for the 3DS.

Or get a 3DS XL for R2200.
But ye I can see the appeal. You could get a 2DS and Pokemon X/Y for the same as a 3DS XL
My only gripe with the 2DS is surely they could have made it into the clamshell form factor, like the 3DS, for the same price. (RRP 1499)
