Xbox One vs PS4

With speculation on how successful the next-gen consoles will be, Electronic Arts have given their guesstimation on how many PS4 and Xbox One consoles will be sold.

By the end of the current financial year (ending 31 March 2014), EA expects around 10 million units sold of Sony and Microsoft’s consoles combined.

“When I talked to our friends at both Sony and Microsoft, and I’m trying to get some indications in the numbers that are going to be available for sale by the end of our fiscal year on March 31 and I aggregate them, I think I can squint and see 10 million units combined, very easily,” said EA COO Peter Moore.

“Both Sony and Microsoft are proposing that this could be their best launches ever as regards their production numbers and their ability to globalise this business quickly. So we feel bullish about our ability of having five truly next-gen titles available for that.”

Microsoft’s Xbox One is on track to launch in thirteen countries around the world (22 November in the UK) and will be debuting at a price of $499 in the US and Canada. The South African release date is still up in the air.

After an initial delay, Ster Kinekor Entertainment has confirmed that the PlayStation 4 now carries a launch date of 13 December 2013 in South Africa.
