According to tweets from David Ballard, Jason Paul, and Josh Scherr, Naughty Dog was allowed a guided tour of the SpaceX headquarters. Accompanying the group is Ashley Johnson, who provided the voice of Ellie in Naughty Dog’s 2013 hit, The Last of Us.
SpaceX is a company that was founded by Elon Musk, tasked with the goal of simplifying space travel and transport for future generations. It’s one of the few successful private companies that are able to produce working spacecraft that are ready for deployment to assist NASA in space exploration and assisting astronauts in the International Space Station.
The team attending the tour was a mixture of talent from the company and it is not clear if more than four people were part of the group. David Ballard is an Environmental artist at Naughty Dog, Jason Paul is the lead web developer for the company and Josh Scherr was the lead cinematics animation developer for the Uncharted series.
Why did they go to SpaceX? No-one really knows at this point but all signs point to a new IP for Naughty Dog. Sony has confirmed that the studio will be developing a game for the Playstation 4, but has not yet revealed what it will be.
Hints left in various areas in The Last of Us may be a clue as to where this is going. Naughty Dog previously teased The Last of Us through a newspaper headline in the bar in the beginning of Uncharted 3. In The Last of Us, several movie posters for a fictional space opera called Savage Starlight adorned walls throughout the game.
Is this a real thing, or just another example of people connecting up the dots where they don’t exist? What do you think? Leave your comments below or in the forums and tell us your theories!
