First National Bank (FNB) has announced that its customers can buy iTunes gift codes for the iTunes Store in South Africa using the FNB banking app.

Apple launched iTunes in SA in December 2012, with  iTunes gift cards in Rand denominations becoming available at iStores and Pick ’n Pay outlets across South Africa in October. Apple iTunes games were finally launched in the SA store in October 2013.

FNB iTunes gift codes are available from R150 to R3,000.

“The codes can be purchased using an FNB Cheque Account or by using eBucks accumulated through our eBucks Rewards Programme. A big plus is that you can pay in local currency with the added peace of mind that you do not divulge bank account details to a third party,” said Kartik Mistry, head of smart devices at FNB’s Core Banking Solutions.

The bank added that, for a limited time only, it will give clients up to 40% of the purchase price back in eBucks. The discount will be based on their eBucks discount level, it said.

“This announcement marks the first step in introducing entertainment purchases on our banking platforms,” said Mistry.
