Gran Turismo 6 launches today in the US and Europe but fans eager to jump straight into the multiplayer component of the game will have to wait until the  1.2GB day one update is complete.

The day one patch, which was announced by Polyphony Digital in July 2013, finishes off the multiplayer portion of the game and allowed Polyphony Digital time to tweak their network and online services right up to launch day to ensure that everything works properly.

The patch also includes some improvements to the single-player portion of the game and adds in a new feature that fans have been teased about for ages since the reveal of GT6 by Kazunori Yamauchi in May 2013, in a special event held on the Silverstone Circuit racetrack in England – Vision GT, a collection of concept cars made by some of the world’s biggest brands that will only be found in GT6.

To celebrate the game’s launch with the Vision GT patch, the Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo will be available as a gift car to all players. The car is usable in all races in the game that have high enough PP requirements and accommodate the car’s FR drivetrain. It can also be used online in seasonal events and races.

Below follows an unofficial change log of what the patch updates in the game. Note that the game is completely playable without the patch and will award players with trophies and allow them to complete it without applying the patch. The changelog is as follows:

  • Vision GT has been added to the home screen.
  • Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo is available as a gift car.
  • Online part has been modified on the home screen. Version 1.00 had four available online modes: Community, Open lobby, Quick Match and Seasonal events. In the 1.01 patch there is only Open lobby and Seasonal events in the online section on the home screen.
  • GT game server is now online in Europe.
  • Car tuning menus has been updater to expand/collapse function.
  • Freshman Cup added to National B mode.
  • Status screen has an updated layout.
  • Tyre type fitted to car is now displayed in lower left corner of race display when driving.
  • Lowest pit stop times – you can set the limit of the number of times that players must pit stop during the race . If the number of pit stops made by players was less than a set number of times , a penalty will be given after the race.
  • Tire Type Replacement obligation – here you can select whether players will be allowed to change tire types during the race (from wet, to dry, to slick tires, etc) to accommodate changing weather conditions.
