Unannounced Hitman game cancelled, new game to fill void

7 January 2014

VideoGamer.com has spotted an update on the LinkedIn profile of an Square Enix Montreal developer that pointed to an unannounced Hitman title which has now been cancelled.

Series developer IO Interactive last had an outing with Agent 47 in 2012 with Hitman Absolution, which although not a terrible game, did not do well in the sales department.

To clear up the confusion, Square Enix has stated that Square Enix Montreal will now be working on a mobile game in the Hitman franchise, while IO Interactive will develop a new Hitman title.

A Square Enix spokesperson told Eurogamer that “IO Interactive is developing a new, AAA Hitman game that will be coming to PC and next-gen consoles. Square Enix Montreal is fully focused on mobile development of games some of which are related to the Hitman franchise.”
