League of Legends player numbers revealed

28 January 2014

Riot Games, developer of MOBA League of Legends, has updated its player stats, revealing 67 million people around the world are playing every month.

There are 27 million players logging in each day, and over 7.5 million concurrent players during each day’s peak play time.

In comparison, Valve’s Dota 2 boasted 6.5 million active monthly players in December 2013. The game regularly peaks at around 640,000 daily players.

Dota 2 recently opened up sign-ups to all and sundry (previously it used a queue system) so improvements in that game’s stats may still emerge.

And what of that other early entrant in the MOBA arena? Heroes of Newerth hasn’t been reporting players numbers of late, but in May 2013 it peaked at 150,000 concurrent players.

Which is your MOBA of choice? Let us know in the comments.

    – The community was without a doubt the worst community I have dealt with.

DOTA2 has it’s bad eggs, but they are rare in my experience at least.
