Namco’s Olivier Comte was all over the headlines yesterday in support of Ubisoft’s much maligned always-on DRM schemes, and with the company currently funding The Witcher 2, developer CD Projekt has since been playing damage control.
“Our distributors commented the Ubisoft-like DRM security solutions, and we’re receiving a massive feedback about applying such in The Witcher 2,” the company posted on Facebook. “There’s nothing to worry about, as nothing is decided yet. And still, it’s a private opinion. You know CD Projekt RED’s opinion about DRM, right?”
That opinion, of course, would be somewhat opposed to any sort of restrictive DRM. As they’ve previously said over at GamerCyte, “We rather believe that it is better to encourage people to buy the original game by giving them exceptional quality and additional values than trying to punish piracy.”
Mind you, CD Projekt’s control might be somewhat limited here. Although the game’s Stateside distribution is being handled by Atari, its EU and Asian 2011 release is Namco’s business.
