The Last of Us to become a movie

7 March 2014

Screen Gems, a subsidiary of Sony, plans to turn The Last of Us into a movie.

The PlayStation 3 game has won multiple awards for its storyline, game direction, and innovation and selecting it for a big screen adaptation seems a logical move – or at least one to squeeze more money out of the title.

The creative director of the game, Neil Druckmann, is reportedly in charge of the script, along with other members of Naughty Dog.

Screen Gems president, Clint Culpepper said: “When I saw the quality of the storytelling, I knew the audience for this project was far greater than just the gaming community.”

Rumours of The Last of Us being turned into a move circulated last year when Sony filed trademarks related to the film.

With zombie/post-apocalypse themed movies normally a hit at the box office, will this game-to-film adaptation be well received? Or is this just another Tekken movie waiting to happen? Let us know what you think in the comments below.

For the hardcore fans among you, below is a six-hour “walk-through movie” of the game.
