Sony Computer Entertainment America CEO Jack Tretton will leave Sony at the end of March, following a “mutual” split between himself and the company.
“It is with mixed feelings that I inform you that I will be stepping down as President and CEO of SCEA. I leave knowing that the PlayStation brand has never been stronger, PlayStation 4 momentum continues to accelerate, and the future will only get brighter for our gamers. Serving PlayStation fans for the past 19 years has been one of the most rewarding experiences in my career. Your passion for gaming inspired me every day,” said Tretton on the US PlayStation Blog.
Tretton joined the American branch when it began in 1995, and helped bring PlayStation to the “West”, where the PS2 sold over 50 million in North America and over 1 million PS4s on the console’s first day on store shelves.
Tretton’s position will be filled by SNEI Shawn Layden who has been with the company for 15 years and previously served as president of Sony Computer Entertainment Japan.
