Enraged gamer causes R271,000 damage

25 March 2014

19-year-old Alec Young was at home enjoying a session on his Xbox when his step-father arrived and asked him to stop playing. The request did not go down well.

The step-father went outside to fetch the mail and upon his return found Young still playing – so he switched off the console (they don’t specify whether it was a 360 or One).

Now, we all know what happens when a step-dad switches off a young man’s Xbox: the poo hits the fan. Young began screaming at his step-dad and threw two remotes at him. The step-dad quickly retreated across the street and called the police.

Young was not done though, and attacked his step-dad’s 2009 Custom Harley Davidson FLF motorbike – valued at over R433,000 – with a knife. “He punched and hit the bike repeatedly. He then knocked it down and continued to to strike the motorcycle until he broke the knife blade off the handle,” a police report read.

Not satisfied with his knifing of the bike, Young got into his Nissan Maxima and drove into the motorbike, pushing it into the garage wall. “The motorcycle sustained damage everywhere. The front forks, fender, frame, and gas tank were all bent,” stated the report, estimating the damages to the bike, the garage, and the remotes, at R271,000.

The violent teen fled to a friend’s house, but was tracked down and arrested by police.

While being transported to a local correctional facility, Young said he had missed the last two doses of anti-anxiety and anti-depression medication he was supposed to be taking.

Young was charged for domestic violence, simple assault, and leaving the scene of an accident. His bail is set at R142,000.
