Nature documentary coming to Oculus Rift

Documentary maker David Attenborough’s next show, Conquest of the Skies, will be available for Oculus Rift before the end of 2014.

The creators of Conquest of the Skies, which is currently being shot in Borneo for Sky 3D, have already bought several Oculus developer kits to bring the documentary to virtual life.

“We’re now filming for the Oculus Rift,”said Atlantic Productions’ commercial director John Morris. “When we filmed our recent flight in Borneo, we filmed with an eight-camera rig, so you got the full 360° experience.”

Morris said the challenges of filming for the Oculus Rift were comparable to the beginning of the film industry, but added that the medium could be very lucrative.

“VR tech is a new platform you can monetise. I think we’ll see millions of Rift headsets being sold.”

Conquest of the Skies will be split across two 90 minute shows and is due for broadcast later this year.
