Which is the best selling next-gen game?

Call of Duty: Ghosts was the best selling PlayStation 4 and Xbox One game for the first quarter of 2014, according to Activision.

It beat the likes of Battlefield 4 and Assassin’s Creed 4 – both of which were released at the end of 2013.

Activision publishing boss Eric Hirshberg called it “an important achievement as we establish Call of Duty as the first person action game of choice for the next-gen”. Ghosts was also the second best-selling game across Europe and North America on all platforms for the first quarter of the year.

Although Activision did not reveal the exact sales figures, it is believed that Ghosts sold less that both Black Ops 2 and Modern Warfare 3.

In other games under the Activision Blizzard banner, World of Warcraft subscribers fell to 7.6 million, but remains the largest subscription based MMORPG in the world.

Blizzard boss Mike Morhaime revealed upcoming expansion Warlords of Draenor had already been pre-purchased over one million times, fuelled by the instant character boost included in a pre-order. It’s due out on¬†20 December 2014.

The free-to-play card game¬†Hearthstone has done “better than expected” according to Blizzard, with over 10 million registered accounts before the iPad edition launched in April.
