Gaming has gone to the dogs

11 May 2014

Do you feel guilty leaving your dog at home alone? Worry no more, because you can buy your pet’s love the same way your bought your step-son’s affection – by getting it a gaming console.

CleverPet is a glorified treat dispenser that will reward your canine pal with with delicious titbits when it presses pads with its paws as they light up. The CleverPet is currently on Kickstarter where its creators are looking to raise $100,000 (R1,033,800) to get the project off the ground.

The gameplay starts simply: the dog pushes any of the touchpad buttons and receives a treat. Then, only the lit buttons deliver a snack. The puzzles evolve from there, gaining complexity and involving different lights and colors.

CleverPet adapts to the skill level of the dog so it doesn’t get too frustrating or too easy. The device connects to Wi-Fi and is monitored through an app. You can check how your dog is doing and keep track of how many treats are going down the hatch.

If you’re concerned about fattening up your pooch, then the CleverPet can be used like a dog bowl instead, doling out a regular meal serving over the course of a day.
