Dota 2 The International 2014 prize pool breaks R62 million

Dota 2 The International’s prize pool has reached it latest stretch goal of $6 million (R±62 million).

The International’s prize pool has broken all previous records thanks to the sale of The Compendium by Valve. $2.50 (±R26) of every $10 (±R104) spent on a Compendium goes towards the prize pool, of which Valve put up the first $1.6 million. This means that Compendium sales have contributed $4.4 million (±R46 million) to the prize tally.

Utilising our basic understanding of maths, we worked out that Valve has therefore pocketed $13.2 million (±R137.8 million) from sales of its Compendium. Let’s hope that it puts some of that money back into the game.

Dota 2 The International takes place at the Key Arena in Seattle, USA, from 18 – 21 July 2014. The tickets for the event were sold out in an under an hour at the beginning of last month.

For those of you who want to spice things up, you can now place real-money bets on The International.
