The Centre for Internet Strategy (CIS) has warned security officials to be on the lookout for an increase in “amateur hackers” following the release of Watch Dogs.
“CIS believes it is likely that a small percent of Watch Dog players will experiment with compromising computers and electronic systems outside of game play,” said the CIS in a leaked report.
The warning coincides with the hacking of several digital highway traffic signs in the US, which were made to display messages such as: “Godzilla Attack! Turn Back”, and “Hack by Sun Hacker”.
The country’s Department of Homeland Security’s Industrial Control Systems Cyber Emergency Response Team, or ICS-CERT, advised the sign operators to take defensive measures against hackers by updating access credentials and stepping up security around access points to the signs.
