Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Andrew House has hinted that Crash Bandicoot may make a comeback in the near future.
“In concept, it is something we’ve been thinking about and discussing, and this is a shift for us. We’ve started to say that maybe there isn’t anything wrong with going back and looking at characters that people still talk about, that were a big part of either their childhood or their youth. I definitely wouldn’t close the door on that,” he said.
Naughty Dog originally owned the rights to the one of the PlayStation 1’s most famous mascots, but the rights now sit with Activision, which hasn’t touched the series in several years.
House did say that the fact Sony did not own the rights put them on “dangerous ground” when it came to rebooting the Crash Bandicoot series.
The last time Crash was on a console was in 2008, in Crash: Mind Over Mutant for PS2, PSP, Xbox 360, Wii, and DS.
There was speculation in November last year that Sony had acquired the Crash IP, but Sony denied this.
