NewBee rules Dota 2 The International

Team NewBee was crowned The International 2014 champions last night in Seattle, USA, after easily defeating ViCi Gaming.

ViCi Gaming took the first match in the Grand Finals series, but from then on NewBee dominated proceedings. They emerged 3-1 victors in the end, with ViCi signalling GG in the last match after only 15 minutes.

As a Dota 2 noob, I thoroughly enjoyed the match up, although it was disappointing to see ViCi capitulate so easily in the later games. From what the commentators were saying, ViCi made some poor hero selection decisions in their drafts, and did not play to the team’s strengths.

Here is a breakdown of the big winners.

  • 1st: $5,028,308 (Newbee)
  • 2nd: $1,475,699 (Vici Gaming)
  • 3rd: $1,038,455 (Evil Geniuses)
  • 4th: $819,833 (DK)
  • 5th: $655,866 (Cloud 9)
  • 6th: $655,866 (LGD Gaming)
  • 7th: $519,227 (Invictus Gaming)
  • 7th: $519,227 (Natus Vincere)
