Is BioWare’s new IP called Shadow Realms?

Shadow Realms BioWare

BioWare has teased something. Something new. Something unsettling. Something possibly titled Shadow Realms.

Details are scarce, and all we have to go on is a mysterious live-action teaser trailer that hints at a dark, psychological tone, dealing with dreams – or more fittingly, nightmares.

Titled “You’ve been chosen”, the brief nightmare trailer alludes to a much bigger reveal at Gamescom being held next month (August 14), and was published with these rather ominous words:

“The time is near. They are watching. Your power is rising. Cologne, Germany. You’ve Been Chosen.”

The trailer finishes off with the question: “What really happens when we sleep?”

Online sleuths over at VG247 have played connect-the-dots with available info, and opine that the title may be an entirely new IP from BioWare called Shadow Realms (speculation based on a thumbnail title name from EA) – which was a name trademarked by EA in March.

Last time BioWare spoke of new IP (at E3 2014) the studio mentioned that it’s working on a new game set in an entirely new fictional world “that is constantly changing”.

That sounds particularly dream-like to me – but of course, this is all speculation until the official details emerge.

There’s also a teaser site to go with it (which runs like a mess, frankly), so keep your eyes peeled for more info as it comes.

What do you make of all this? More importantly, what would you like to see coming from the studio that brought us Dragon Age and Mass Effect? Let us know on the forums or in the comments below.
