Thanks to the team at I Fucking Love Science, a video from Vsauce3 explaining – in scientific terms – the repercussions has been brought to my attention, and it does not disappoint.
Considering that Superman can punch dimensions apart and travel at nearly the speed of light, you know his fist in your face is going to hurt. A full explanation is posted in the video, below, but the quick version is as follows:
If Superman’s fist is 300 grams and moves at 99% the speed of light, the punch is equivalent to 45 megatons of TNT. The movement would burn 45 trillion calories, and the energy released would be about 80 trillion Kelvin.
Not only would you be liquefied at an atomic level, you literally would not see the punch coming.
That being said, Batman is still number one in my heart.
