rAge 2014 – All you need to know

9 October 2014

rAge 2014 gets underway tomorrow, Friday 10 October 2014, and runs until Sunday, 12 October at The Dome in Johannesburg.

2014 marks the 12th year of the gaming and technology exposition, and the organisers are promising an eventful and exciting show for all who attend.

This year’s event features 95 exhibitors, who will be engaging in competitions and give-aways, showing off new games and powerful PC hardware, and displaying their latest and greatest wares.

Here is what you can look forward to.

NAG LAN

The NAG LAN at this year’s event is expected to host 2,500 gamers who will bring their own PCs for a “non-stop 53-hour” session of gaming and content sharing. Internet Solutions will be providing 2Gbps of bandwidth to The Dome for rAge, and has promised gamers uninterrupted connectivity while they go about their business.

For those of you into records, rAge claims that NAG LAN is the biggest gaming LAN in South Africa.

Games, Hardware and Product displays

rAge 2014 will feature 95 exhibitors, which if you spend 5 minutes at each stand means you will be occupied for 8 hours.

Some of the must-see displays, according to the organisers, includes the global debut of the Sci-Ryder – a gaming chair which has apparently been recommended by chiropractors and which will definitely make you feel cooler than Johnny who games from the couch.

Overclocking displays will be held by Titan Ice Computers throughout the three-day event, while the X99 and Z97 motherboards will be pushed to the limit at the NAG Extreme Overclocking stand.

Besides Titan Ice and NAG, gaming brands such as Aorus, Corsair, Gigabyte, Cool Master, and BenQ will be on display at the Rectron stand for those looking to upgrade their rigs.

For those of you looking forward to a peek at upcoming AAA titles, Megarom will be showing off Assassin’s Creed Rogue, The Crew, NBA 2K15, Skylanders Trap Team, Tom Clancy’s The Division, and Evolve.

Other gaming-related items to look forward to include Iron Man 3: Iron Man Mark XX Python, Batman the Dark Knight: Joker Bank Robber Version 2.0, and AVP: Ancient Predator figurines by Hot Toys at the Hobby Island stand.

Celebrities and Pro Gamers

Ah, celebrities – they’re just like normal people at rAge, but they get paid to be there.

2014’s iteration of the event will play host to local rapper Jack Parow and Van Coke Kartel frontman Francois van Coke at the PlayStation stand, where they will be challenging attendees to show their mettle on the Sony Console.

League of Legends pro player Snoopeh, known by his human name as Stephen Ellis, will be meeting and greeting fans at rAge this year, and is scheduled to take part in a LAN session. For those not brave enough to take on Snoopeh at LOL, he will also be speaking about WD products.

Cosplay

rAge is a great place to try out your prized cosplay costume, or simply enjoy the creations of others. If you are going all dressed up, let us know and send a pic to MyGaming – we will slot it in our “sights and sounds of rAge 2014″ article.

On a completely bro-dude note, I am definitely looking forward to pretty ladies dressed as [insert video game character crush’s name], and I am sure there will be some handsome young men for you girls to ogle at, too.
