Electronics & Gaming Expo for Cape Town

Electronics & Gaming Expo

The Mother City may finally get its own rAge-like expo in 2015: the Electronics & Gaming Expo (EGE), which is scheduled to run from 29 to 31 May.

EGE is set to take place at the Cape Town International Conference Centre and is being organised by Impact Exhibitions – organisers of the Boat Show, and Wings & Wheels in 2013.

No ticket price has been set yet, but Impact Exhibitions said the prices are expected to be between R60 and R80 per person.

Of some concern is that the floor map published on the EGE website still appears quite empty.

Asked about this, Impact said that a number of exhibitors have reserved spots so far, and these reservations will be confirmed in the next week or so:

  • Learn3D
  • Friends of Design
  • Skycastle
  • CNA
  • Apex
  • Aperture
  • Frontosa

This is not the first time there have been promises of a Cape Town-based gaming expo offering a similar experience to the Really Awesome Gaming Expo (rAge) that happens in Johannesburg every year.

Most recently, an expo called GameX which was set to take place on the weekend of 12–14 April 2013 was postponed until 2014 due to a trademark dispute. There was no further news about the event in 2014.

Impact Exhibitions said while it has faced challenges with contacting the relevant people in South Africa’s gaming industry, so far things look positive and the event is a go.

Within the next week or two Impact Exhibitions said it will have finalised which stand reservations have been confirmed, as well as the ticket price.

It has also received a large space in the CTICC which will allow for the hosting of a LAN and e-sports component, a spokesperson said.

“What rAge is offering really has been awesome, but Cape Town has really been starved of a gaming event like this,” Impact Exhibitions said.
