When we first heard about Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin, essentially an enhanced re-release of Dark Souls 2 for the newest consoles, we were really excited. Keep in mind that this is way before everyone discovered how fantastic Bloodborne for the PS4 is. It also meant, potentially at least, a more stable version for PC gamers. Yay.
Well, Scholar of the First Sin has released, and is even available on Steam right now.
What this new Dark Souls 2 offers is graphically superior, somewhat overhauled version of the original, as well as all of the content released for the title post-launch. That includes the three expansions.
As far as overhauling is concerned, Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin has new enemy placements, tweaked or relocated safe zones, and there’s even an NPC invader, Forlorn, who will make sure to keep you on your toes. It’s even got an improved online suite. That said, it’s a $49.99 (approximately R600) purchase, or will set you back $29.99 (around R300) to upgrade from the original Dark Souls 2 release. That’s a hefty price tag.
If it’s worth it for you will likely be down to how much of a fan you are, whether or not you’re willing to double-dip and what your experiences were like prior to this release. If you’re really itching to give it another go, it should be a blast. The Souls series always is.Forum discussion
