Action-MMORPG Mythos had a rocky start. It was originally being developed by Flagship Studios Seattle, a subdivision of Flagship Studios, who are best remembered for the disastrous Hellgate: London. Reeling from the Hellgate: London fiasco, Flagship Studios closed its doors, and Mythos was cast into limbo.
In 2008 Korean company HanbitSoft snatched up the intellectual property fallout. In May 2009 HanbitSoft revealed that they were continuing development of Mythos. Things have been relatively quiet since, with closed beta testing taking place.
The Mythos Europe website has been launched, along with public beta testing registrations, which is a pretty good sign that things are on track. South African’s are also welcome to sign up for the open beta testing phase.
Mythos is an action oriented MMORPG in which players can form teams, or go solo through dungeons where they will encounter all sorts of terrifying monsters requiring some slaying. The gameplay follows a Diablo-esque hack-n’-slash style.
The new website contains all sorts of info for interested players, such as the story overview, character and race info, and various galleries of artwork and screenshots.
Visitors to the website can also have a gander at a new video showing off some in-game footage. Three distinct game zones are showcased: Evergreen Pasture, Jagged Canyons and Crystal Peaks. According to the press release, “Each region provides a new backdrop, along with the local dungeons and monstrous foes.”
“Not only have the zones received a visual overhaul, they have also been expanded and the players’ ‘hubs’ have been totally redesigned. Gamers can now move their character through the game world in the classic RPG 3D view, as well as in the classic isometric perspective from the previous version.”
