Gearbox Software to unveil Duke Nukem Forever

Rumours abound across the Internet have suggested that Gearbox Software will be revealing something to do with Duke Nukem Forever at the 2010 Penny Arcade Expo this weekend. Previously, Gearbox was said to be working on another Duke Nukem spinoff – Duke Begins.

Duke Nukem Forever is probably the longest running joke in game development history; a title that should have been classified as vapourware years ago. In true hardcore Duke Nukem style, the game has refused to die.

Now, according to CVG who claim to have US developer sources confirming this, Duke Nukem Forever will get a “grand demo” at the Penny Arcade Expo.

Gearbox Software’s publisher, 2K, has recently said that “something big is going to happen at the 2K Games Booth this PAX.” The company has put up a streaming video website that will broadcast the reveal live on Friday at 10:00 Pacific Time (19:00, Friday, 3 September in South Africa).

To whet your appetite, below is a bit of gameplay footage apparently taken from an ex-3D realms employee’s portfolio:

If the whole thing does turn out to be a Duke Nukem reveal, hopefully Gearbox Software has plenty of improvements in store.
