For all intents and purposes, Triad Wars offers players another opportunity to grace United Front Games’ interpretation of Hong Kong. Only this time, instead of playing as Wei Shen through a much more focussed narrative, you’re given the opportunity to carve your own path as an MMO.
After being announced last September and having subsequently retreated back into hiding, Triad Wars is here to cause a fuss once more, to take control of the streets of Hong Kong.
If Triad Wars is anything like Sleeping Dogs, it should make for a fairly decent MMO. Its combat was enjoyable, even if it was a tad repetitive; it maintained a believable, somewhat gripping atmosphere; and offered a number of activities to keep you occupied – these are all things that suit an MMO like Triad Wars. Unfortunately, for the moment at least, Triad Wars looks a little too much like Sleeping Dogs.
Without quite a bit of improvement, Triad Wars will get tedious… and fast. Not only have we done it all before, but Sleeping Dogs was awfully tedious at times, and many of its bonus activities were uninventive and dull. For now, however, we’ll give it the benefit of the doubt. You should too.
If you’re willing to give Triad Wars a go, you can sign up for its beta here. If not, you might as well check out some of its recently released artwork. It sure looks pretty.
