Tekken 7’s Gigas is as hefty as Lucky Chloe is pink

Tekken 7

Tekken 7’s new character additions have been rather extreme, or at least a few of them have, but we like it. You can only add so many slick, cool and long coated, really rather cliché, characters before you need something new. Enter, Gigas. He’s red, massive and hits like a truck – a cybernetic beefcake.

Now that we think about it, and having watched Gigas in action ourselves, perhaps “beefcake” is misleading. Don’t expect Gigas to fight anything like Jack; that’s because Gigas’ size as well as his cybernetically enhanced body are fairly deceptive. His fighting style more closely resembles that of King and the older Tekken 3 Jin.

There are going to be Tekken fans who dislike Gigas’ addition to the roster. Perhaps not as many as there were for Lucky Chloe’s debut, but a few nonetheless. In case you’re not up-to-date with Tekken 7’s Lucky Chloe… well she’s pink, very pink.

Lucky Chloe has undergone a number of model refinements since then, but she’s still the same unabashed, exaggerated otaku we’ve come to love. She’s scintillating and a welcome addition to Tekken’s otherwise stagnating collection of fighters. That’s not to say we don’t love the oldies; they just look so “samey”.

We’re sure Tekken purists are looking forward to characters like Gigas and Lucky Chloe. After all, there have been a number of absurd characters in prior titles.

Kuma & Panda

Cute and cuddly they may be, bears are some of the most dangerous animals to walk the planet. And yet they’re about as inappropriate as combatants can be, especially Panda.

Alex & Roger

There’s little cooler than this duo, and not just because one of them is cold blooded. Alex and Roger made no sense whatsoever as unlockable characters in Tekken 2, but it was a much better game for it.

Gon

Gon was the ultimate counter to True Ogre. He took virtually no fire breath damage and doled out the pain with his wantonly chibi fireball. And there were a lot more absurd characters besides.

We’re still unsure when exactly Tekken 7 will reach home platforms in the West, but we’ll update you as we learn more.
