Weekend catch-up – from ninjas to the final frontier

Batman: Arkham Knight has us so excited. Ermahgerd.

A lot has happened this past weekend, most of it exciting, so we have a lot to talk about. Let’s start with Tekken 7 and crowd favourite Yoshimitsu:

Ninjas aliens in cybernetic pyjamas – Tekken 7

Tekken 7’s Yoshimitsu has always been one of your favourites.

Yoshimitsu has always been one of Tekken’s more inventive characters, and it’s no different in Tekken 7, even in the presence of the newly added Gigas and Lucky Chloe.

His fighting style is largely the same, albeit with a few improvements, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Did you see the conclusion to that fight? Yoshimitsu’s Rage Art is sweet!

Jason Voorhees in his element – Mortal Kombat X

Just when you thought Mortal Kombat X couldn’t get any gorier.

From one blade-wielding nutter to another, only this one uses a decidedly different sort of weapon.

Jason Voorhees’ machete is a lot less about slicing and dicing, and much more about mangling and eviscerating. Observe.

Get your Kombat Pack now. Don’t forget that a certain Predator is set to make an appearance as well.

What the heck, it just got prettier – GTA V

iCEnhancer was always going to happen for GTA V, but how far will it push it?

For the moment, the differences between Los Santos with and without iCEnhancer are subtle, but they’re certainly noticeable if you know where to look.

If you’re unfamiliar with iCEnhancer, it and its creator, Hayssam Keilany, did fantastic things for GTA IV. And the ENB-based graphical enhancement should hopefully do the same for GTA V.

A tweet by ZZCOOL last Friday does its best to show off a few of the differences. It’s early days for GTA V’s version of iCEnhancer, so we weren’t expecting much.

It’s more the existence of the mod than its current progress that has us excited.

You can see more of the mod’s good work over on its Facebook page.

Blowing things up as you know and love, but better – Battlefield 4

Battlefield 4 could still use a few improvements and additions, here’s hoping that’s what this is.

Battlefield 4: Final Stand, as far as we understood it, was meant to be the end Battlefield 4’s DLC content. That’s what Premium covers after all.

Apparently, while it is the end of Premium, it’s not the end of DLC. All future DLC, however, will be free. Fantastic.

First up is the game’s Spring update, which promises a new game mode (Gun Master Mode) and five new weapons, among a number of other changes and tweaks.

Beyond that, there’s a new night time map on the way, and possibly more. And it’s all free.

Finally, thanks to some input from Battlefield Hardline developers, Visceral Games, DICE has developed the tech to run Battlefield 4 with a 120Hz tickrate.

It’s still in early development, but should mean a much more accurate and dependable netcode.

It’s a little late for Battlefield 4, but we’re hoping it’s already being implemented in Star Wars: Battlefront.

Batman on the ropes; dual play comes to the rescue – Batman: Arkham Knight

Of all of Batman: Arkham Knight’s villains, we’re most excited by the all-new Arkham Knight.

The first official Batman: Arkham Insider, essentially Batman: Arkham Knight’s dev diary, released this weekend with a slew of information.

Chiefly among its topics was the breakdown of the ‘All Who Follow You’ trailer, the newly introduced dual play system, allowing you to swap between characters mid-combat and the many characters of Arkham Knight.

There’s also a brief but delectable discussion of the return of Azrael, the Riddler and more.

Just who is the Arkham Knight?

They’re video games Jim, but not as we know it – Star Trek

The Star Trek franchise could use a few new games, but replying the old ones for now works for us too.

Having introduced a number of sought after Star Wars titles to their library, GoG.com has recently announced that the second half of sci-fi’s most beloved pair, Star Trek, is up next.

So far, “action/point-and-click adventure” Star Trek: 25th Anniversary and sequel Star Trek: Judgement Rites as well as “choose-your-adventure space sim” Star Trek: Starfleet Academy have been added. We predict more to come.
