The 2010 edition of the Tokyo Game Show concluded over the weekend, and there are a lot of game announcements to mull over. We’ve rounded up the biggest and most interesting announcements from the show.
The Last Guardian, SotC and Ico HD remakes
Team Ico wowed the crowd with the latest update on their highly anticipated action adventure, The Last Guardian. Some gameplay footage has been released, showing interaction between the game’s main characters, a boy and his friendly beast companion. Check out MyGaming’s ‘The Last Guardian’ feature for the video and some screencaps.
Team Ico has also announced HD remakes of their revered classics, Ico and Shadow of the Colossus – they will be 3D capable games as well. All three games will be PS3 exclusive.
Asura’s Wrath
A brand new IP for Xbox 360 and PS3, in the vein of action-adventure titles such as God of War. Asura’s Wrath is being developed by CyberConnect 2 (Naruto) on the Unreal 3 engine. The Asura’s Wrath announce trailer shows a wrathful looking Asura kicking serious ass in over-the-top action game style.
DmC Devil May Cry
The reveal of DmC stirred quite a bit of emotion from long-time fans of the series due to the visual reboot of core character Dante. The DmC announce trailer shows a young Dante engaging in some typically flamboyant combat, but also hints at his battle with personal demons. DmC is being developed by Ninja Theory (Heavenly Sword, Enslaved) for Xbox 360 and PS3.
Dead Rising 2: Case West
An exclusive DLC title for Xbox 360, Case West fills in a few more blanks in the story between Dead Rising 1 and 2. There aren’t many details on this story, but we know that the protagonists from both games will be working together on this one.
Dynasty Warriors 7
The Dynasty Warriors franchise has turned 10, and Tecmo Koei announced the PS3 exclusive 7th instalment in the series. No more info was given.
Ninja Gaiden III
The Ninja Gaiden series will be expanded upon with a third title, developed by Team Ninja, announced Tecmo Koei. Again, they shared no additional info, but did tease with a single piece of artwork.
Project Dark
From Software announced Project Dark for PS3 and Xbox 360. They promised it will be a dark fantasy game that’s going to appeal to Demon’s Souls fans. Rumours immediately began circulating that this is a project codename for Demon’s Souls II, but From has kept quiet. Gamespot managed to cam the Project Dark announce trailer – no official trailer has been released.
Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor
Capcom’s first Kinect game is promised as a title for ‘core gamers.’ The Steel Battalion series of games is set in a post-apocalyptic future – computers are history, and armored mechanical behemoths operated by humans rule the battlefields. This could prove to be an interesting Kinect title.
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow
Whilst not a new game announcement, it’s worth mentioning. Konami released a lengthy Lords of Shadow trailer showing off some great cutscenes and storyline from their upcoming action adventure. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow is a reboot of the series and boasts creative input from Hideo Kojima (Metal Gear Solid). Spoiler alert – the trailer might just give away some things that gamers would rather discover for themselves.
Codename D
Another Kinect title for the ‘hardcore’ crowd, developed by Suda 51. Details were scarce, but Suda 51 hinted that it will be an action-adventure-survival title set in an evil amusement park. Apparently there will be no guns, swords, or armaments of any kind. Hand-to-hand combat, Kinect style?
Shadows of the Damned
A collaboration between No More Heroes director Goichi Suda, Resident Evil 4 director Shinji Mikami, and Silent Hill audio director Akira Yamaoka. The game stars demon hunter Garcia who makes his way through hell to save the woman he loves. Eastern Dante’s Inferno anyone? The game is being released for Xbox 360 and PS3.
Yakuza: of the End
A spin-off from Sega’s Yakuza series finds four main characters from the series battling against hordes of zombies in a fictional Tokyo district. Each of the four will specialise in a particular type of weapon, although they will be able to swap for any other weapon that’s laying about. Yakuza: of the End will be a PS3 exclusive.
