Black Ops 3 will make its way to Xbox 360 and PS3

“We’re working with developers Beenox and Mercenary Technology on Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3,” said Scott Lowe, Communications Manager for Activision, on the company’s blog.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is supposedly optimised for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC, but Activision isn’t ready to abandon “fans that haven’t made the transition to the new console.”

The companys’ saddled with Black Ops 3’s port, Beenox and Mercenary Technology, are relatively experienced at handling console ports, which is good news.

Thought it should be noted that Black Ops 3 will be the highest profile title either company will have handled to date.

Beenox has ported the likes of Skylanders and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen for PC, and Mercenary Technology has completed work on games like Prototype 2 for Xbox 360, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning for PS3 and Call of Duty Black Ops: Declassified for the PS Vita.

As you may have expected, there will be a few changes made to the port to accommodate the consoles’ diminished performance capabilities.

The campaign for the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game, for example, will be two rather than four player.

Lowe also hints at other areas where features will be cut, but doesn’t mention exactly what. There will be zombies though, so that’s something.

The upcoming beta for Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 will be for Xbox One, PS4 and PC only.

There will also be no version for the Wii U; sorry Nintendo fans.

We just hope that these older-gen ports don’t in some way hinder the current-gen titles.

Games designed with multiple generations in mind usually suffer for it. Here’s hoping that’s not the case.
