The questionable Nintendo PlayStation prototype may be a fake

There once existed an unholy union between Nintendo and Sony, at one point during the 1990s, in which the two giants were working together on a video game accessory.

An accessory that would add CD capabilities to the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES).

In addition, there was to be a separate Sony console that would play SNES cartridges and titles for the SNES CD system, known as the PlayStation.

Rather fortunately, given how PlayStation turned out, this union was not to be and things turned sour.

Nintendo announced a partnership with Sony’s competitor Philips for the exact same accessory at CES at which they unveiled their Nintendo PlayStation.

Sony wasn’t happy to say the least, and decided to go their own way and made the original Sony PlayStation. The rest is history.

However, images and a video have surfaced of the of an original Nintendo PlayStation prototype, when Reddit user Analogueboy went live with this evidence:

These pictures, and video, appear to document a prototype of the original PlayStation. Analogueboy said that he found the prototype in a box of his father’s junk.

Supposedly, his father had worked with a man named Olaf, who was employed by the “Mario company”. This prototype was left behind as a result.

This Olaf could be the founder of Sony Interactive Entertainment, Ólafur Jóhann Ólafsson.

Whether the device is fake will only be told in due time, but many across the internet vouch for the prototype’s authenticity and some question its validity.

The only way to actually prove that it is a fake or not is to play a game on the console with either cartridge or cd but since nothing was ever released for the console there is of proving its validity other than the branding on the equipment
