Gray Matter delayed again

12 October 2010

Lace Mamba Global has confirmed that the release date of Jane Jensen’s Gray Matter has been delayed and will now supposedly arrive on retail shelves on 25 February 2011. The delay relates to both Xbox 360 and PC versions of the game.

By way of explanation, Lace Mamba Global said that despite the development team WizarBox and publisher dtp Entertainment working extremely hard to finish the game for an October release, they had no choice but to delay the game.

Jason Codd of Lace Mamba Global explains: “I understand that this is very frustrating for consumers who have pre-ordered the game and we are very disappointed also as we have been building up to the release, started our marketing and PR, but due to the tight time frames, and the need for more polishing of the game we had no alternative but to make a quick decision and delay the product until February.”

“This will give the development team more time in ensuring that the game measures up to the standards that have been set, and we now know for certain that the date we have is the date Gray Matter will be available,” said Codd.

Gray Matter has suffered numerous delays, having been first announced back in 2003. Publisher and developer changes have plagued the project, until things settled with developer WizarBox and publisher dtp Entertainment. The delays may well be worth it though, as Jane Jensen has a history of designing great adventure games, and fans are eager to see a return to form.

Adventure gamers of the 1990’s era will likely recall Jane Jensen’s contributions to the genre – writing for Police Quest III and EcoQuest: The Search for Cetus, co-designing King’s Quest VI, and then designing the trilogy of critically acclaimed Gabriel Knight adventure games.

With the decline in popularity of adventure games through the late 90’s, a fourth Gabriel Knight was never commissioned. Jensen focused on her novel writing career, publishing two Gabriel Knight adaptations, and two original works, Millenium Rising aka Judgment Day and Dante’s Equation. The latter was nominated for the Philip K. Dick award.
