Despite claims and rumours that Konami are halting AAA game development to focus on the mobile market, both a Konami representative and community manager have vehemently denied these claims.
Both have stated that Konami are committed to core console gaming.
Sadly, however, there have been no official statements directly from Konami themselves.
The Konami rep responded to a reddit User saying that the publisher was definitely not turning its back on the console AAA game market, as speculated by the press. All of which, can be read below:
To add more fuel to the fire, the Konami rep promised in an email that they (Konami) are “not leaving Metal Gear behind or anything like that“.
Further adding, “We’re still definitely working on console games and franchises such as Metal Gear, Silent Hill, Castlevania, PES and all the rest.”
With so much uncertainty up in the air, it does make you wonder where Konami’s head space is at exactly.
In a recent interview, even Graham Day, Konami’s UK Community Manager, denied that Konami would be leaving console gamers in the lurch and focusing on the mobile market.
However, many questions are left regarding Konami and a supposed effort to shift their efforts to a fully mobile focus. We originally speculated that they would be quitting the AAA industry altogether.
But with no official confirmation from Konami, we can only wonder at this point, and hopefully they won’t be quitting AAA games.
