Xbox 360 holiday bundle announced, confirmed for SA

2 November 2010

Yesterday Microsoft announced their Xbox 360 Holiday Bundle and now MyGaming has confirmation that the bundle will be arriving on South African shores.

The Xbox 360 Holiday Bundle includes a 250GB Xbox 360 ‘S’ (gloss black finish), a physical copy of Forza 3, and a download token for the full version of Alan Wake which can be obtained via Xbox LIVE. The Holiday Bundle will sell for a recommended retail price of R3199, a fair knock off the standard retail price of the Xbox 360 ‘S’ 250GB (R3199) considering the bundled games.

There is currently no indication on exactly when the bundle will arrive in local stores, but considering that it has begun to ship worldwide, we anticipate it will arrive in time for the Christmas holiday shopping season.

The Xbox 360 S is a revised design of the previous generation Xbox 360. The ‘S’ has been dropped and the devices will simply be referred to by hard-drive size – the Xbox 360 4GB and Xbox 360 250GB.

The revised systems feature a redesigned motherboard layout, which conserves space, and affords the console a smaller footprint. The CPU has been shrunk to a 45nm fabrication process. One large fan replaces the two smaller fans of old models, and the vent slots have been redesigned. The new console is expected to run more quietly than previous models.

Wi-Fi and optical audio have been integrated into the device, which now sports five USB ports (three on old models). A custom USB port supports Xbox 360 peripherals such as the Kinect. The old memory card slots are gone, replaced with a USB flash drive system. The power and DVD drive buttons have been replaced with touch sensitive counterparts. Finally, the 4GB will feature a matt black finish, with the 250GB featuring a gloss black finish.
