We’re super amped for Fallout 4 and it’s one of the awesome games releasing this week, with the other one being Rise of the Tomb Raider.
There have been a number of recent reports of performance issues with the PS4 version of Fallout 4 including long load times and framerate issues.
Whereas, the only issues with the Xbox One version appears to be some minor audio clipping, with one GameFAQs user explaining:
I have had it since Thursday and i have not seen this frame rate issue.I did notice some audio clipping during weather effects like a big storm but it was far and few in between it happening.
Oh yeah i forgot to say i have it for xbox one.
A lack of framerate issues with the Xbox One version of the game has been further evidenced with a recent video fps test:
What is strange is that both the Xbox One and PS4 have such similar architecture so there shouldn’t be such disparities.
The PC version, however, appears to be stable as expected as confirmed by one Reddit user.
The first reports that started appearing were related to the PS4 version’s framerate issues, with a NeoGAF thread covering the issue.
Two users provided video evidence of framerate issues where the game struggles particularly inside buildings dipping below 30fps . Things get progressively worse when you use your gun’s scope or get shot.
Tidux, an industry insider, has also stated that Fallout 4 is having severe framerate issues. This is what he said:
the graphics are oki. Unfortunately, there are places in the game where there are framedrops, sometimes they go down to single digits
— Tidux (@Tidux) November 8, 2015
He even shared a video on Twitter via his PS4 showing the framerate issues in action, but the video was taken down. Following this, Tidux mocked Pete Hines’ claims on Fallout 4′s solid 30fps PS4 performance on Twitter, which can be seen below:
Following a number of reports pouring in on the NeoGAF thread, one user who has been playing Fallout 4 for hours had this to say:
Sadly, the frame issues appear to be happening with 1.01 or the Day One patch installed, and there’s only so much time left before the game launches tomorrow.
Game has massive problems holding the 30fps when inside buildings, cages or whatever you have a load time when you get in.
Here is a short video I recorded. (No Spoilers)

This get’s way worse when people shoot at you or throw molotow cocktails.
I am no technical expert, but I think this game might be locking itself like The Witcher 3 did. Firefights in buildings feel exactly like fights in The Witcher 3 in the swamp when it’s raining.
In the open world the game has hiccups too, but not as bad as in buildings.
This just isn’t fun, when you can’t even aim properly because of the frame rate.
I want to add, that in firefights in buildings it affected my aiming and character movement. You may not see it perfectly fine in this video, which has also no firefight in it, but I could definitely feel it. Also, the part where I want to go through the hole in the wall, I couldn’t move my character properly.
Here are some videos of performance issues people are experiencing. The first video shows the scoping framerate issue:
This video shows some of the framerate drops inside buildings and when sprinting:
Now check out some of these terrible load times for the PS4 version:
These terrible load times are further supported by Reddit users reporting loading times of more than 40 seconds when leaving areas like The Wastes. See the Reddit thread below:
Reddit has also shown off further reports of performance issues with the PS4 version of Fallout 4, with one user explaining:
Fallout 4 Performance, my experiences — check your expectations
I managed to get a copy of the game from Media Markt here in Germany and have played several hours so far. The game is great and (obviously) huge. I would like to offer a fair warning to those picking up the game this week. Performance is extremely variable. There are many situations where framerate dips well below 30 and sometimes even below 20-22. This is usually during combat. Strangely enough, the more visually demanding/densely crowded areas seem to run fine, but there are some seriously dire frame drops in certain areas that inhibit combat. Think Witcher 3 swamps…
For the record, I am running the game with the Day 1 patch. All this being said, the game is fantastic and I am really enjoying it, but I have to say that performance is not what I was hoping for. I will be interested to see comments from DF and the like. Let me know if you have any questions!
Fallout 4 will be dropping tomorrow and coloured us excited still. The issues for the PS4 version are very daunting, but this should be sorted out quite soon if it’s bad as reports claim.
