A supposedly reliable source close to The Witcher 3’s developer, CD Projekt RED, as confirmed by Gamereactor Germany, has indicated that the Polish developer is shooting for a 2016 release date.
As CD Projekt RED’s most ambitious title yet, and by a long way too, we can’t see Cyberpunk 2077 being ready for by the end of next year.
It took them a considerable amount of time to get The Witcher 3 where they wanted it, and it was still delayed for the sake of additional work and polish.
In an interview with Polish TV station TVN24 Bis, The Witcher 3’s developer, Adam Kicinski, said that they wanted Cyberpunk 2077 to a massive commercial success, something The Witcher 3 unfortunately isn’t – even if it is the best game to release this year.
He continued on to say that Cyberpunk 2077 is more ambitious than they ever intended, having started the initial planning stages way back in 2012.
A game of that magnitude is going to take time to perfect.
If you’ll recall, visual effects artist Jose Teixeira told MCV that “Cyberpunk is far bigger than anything else that CD Projekt Red has done before.”
He continued on to say that, “We’re really stepping into the unknown in terms of complexity and size and problems we encounter.”
Even if the studio has lent most of its resources to this latest title, there’s still another expansion for The Witcher 3 to get through first.
We’re not sure we want Cyberpunk 2077 to release in 2016, not if it’s going to be as excellent as we want it to be.
And in actuality, what is most concerning for a good portion of us is that there are rumblings that Cyberpunk 2077 is only being developed for PC.
That’s going to mitigate a good portion of Cyberpunk 2077’s potential sales if true.
