Windows 95 running on the Nintendo 3DS

Consoles are always jailbroken at some point, the PS4 being the most recent example.

Hackers are always finding ways to exploit consoles, it’s an inevitability really, and one hacker in particular has managed to get Windows 95 to run on the Nintendo 3DS – in this case the New 3DS.

Going by the name shutterbug2000, what this hacker has essentially done is turn the Nintendo 3DS into a mini-PC of sorts, neat.

Sadly, Windows 95 only runs on the New 3DS because the older model of the handheld doesn’t quite have the hardware to handle the operating system. Consider the New 3DS to be the critical mass required to make it happen.

You can learn more about how the whole process works by reading this thread, and for more updates you can take a look here.

The videos below include the 3DS running not only Windows 95 but also Windows 98 and Windows 3.1.

Unsurprisingly, given how popular ultra-small PCs are at the moment, everyone is going crazy over this development, especially on NeoGAF.

It’s partially because it very likely means pirated games are readily playable on the device, and soon.
