Nathan “Radd” Spencer is back for some more 2.5D platform action in Bionic Commando Rearmed 2. This game is not to be confused with Capcom’s 2009 Bionic Commando reboot which saw Nathan having his first 3D outing.
The first Rearmed game, released in 2008, was a digital download only title, available via Xbox LIVE and PSN. It was positively received by critics and gamers alike, currently sitting with 85/100 and 87/100 on Metacritic for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 respectively. Whilst Rearmed 1 was a remake of the original 1988 NES Bionic Commando, Rearmed 2 is an original story occurring before the events of 2009’s Bionic Commando.
The plot goes that General Sabio, a dictator from the Papagayan Islands, is up to mischief and the safety of the world hangs in the balance. Sabio plans to launch a missile directly at the FSA – Spencer’s organisation. Colonel Buebaker was sent in to stop Sabio but has since gone missing, so it’s up to Spencer to save the Colonel and stop the manical Sabio.

In Rearmed 2, Spencer will once again make use of his trademark bionic grappling hook arm to manoeuvre through environments. Plenty of new weapons, attacks and enhancements for the all-purpose bionic arm are promised. The arm will also be used to solve platforming based puzzles, putting swinging skills to the test.
Rearmed 2 implements the ability to jump, a feature absent from the original title and 2008’s remake. The jump can also be disabled via menu options for those who want the challenge of the original gameplay mechanic. ‘Death from Above’ is another new move in which players slam into the ground from a height, causing a shockwave that stuns nearby enemies.

Two player co-operative gameplay is featured, but limited to local session. The co-operative mode will apparently implement the necessity to work together and form strategy to bypass enemies, rather than simply throwing a second player into the fray.

The soundtrack promises to illicit NES era nostalgia with a modern flair. Two fan made remixes of the original 8-but Bionic Commando theme track will be included in the game, as decided by a competition held earlier in the year.

The cut-scene art has been designed by the Massive Black art studio whom are renowned for their work on Infamous, Bioshock 2 and God of War III.

Capcom has just released some media showing off one of the main bosses in Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 – the Megacopter is a mammoth flying contraption. Spencer will have to use all of his wits and skill to take down the monstrosity. We have sprinkled some Megacopter screenshots throughout the article and below is a gameplay video showing off a Megacopter battle.
