Blur developer in trouble

Uh-oh, it looks like Bizarre Creations is about to be another industry statistic. The Geometry Wars / Project Gotham / The Club / Blur / 007 Bloodstone developer is reportedly in the chop shop, although if you consider the commercial failure of those latter three titles, and the total critical disaster of the last one, it’s perhaps not exactly shocking or anything.

Activision, who bought the studio back in 2007, has yet to confirm the company’s actual closure, but released the following statement:

“Over the past three years since our purchase of Bizarre Creations, the fundamentals of the racing genre have changed significantly. Although we made a substantial investment in creating a new IP, Blur, it did not find a commercial audience. Bizarre is a very talented team of developers, however, because of the broader economic factors impacting the market, we are exploring our options regarding the future of the studio, including a potential sale of the business.”

So, yeah. Why is it that gamers are always complaining about the lack of new IP, but not actually investing in it when it turns up? But go on, hate on Activision instead.
